Peloponnese selection
Arcadia / Messinia / Laconia / Mani
8 day round trip - Peloponnese selection
No other region in Greece can look back on such a long history of tourism as the Peloponnese. The Romans were already raving about the landscape and architecture 2000 years ago. This continuity has lasted until today: The Peloponnese is the classic destination for every fan of Hellas. World-famous excavations in Olympia and Mycenae, the wild and still largely untouched Mani, miles of sandy beaches near Kyllini and half a dozen dream islands, which Lord Byron and Henry Miller raved about, fulfill the traveler's longing for adventure, enjoyment and relaxation.
Itinerary:
Day 1 : Arrival in Kalamata. Welcome by our tour guide and drive in a westerly direction.
Overnight stay near Olympia.
Day 2: Visit Olympia and continue through the villages of Arcadia (highlight: pilgrimage site of the church of Ag. Theodorou) and Argolis to Tolo.

Day 3: Two UNESCO World Heritage Sites are waiting to be discovered today. The excavations in Mycenae with its royal tombs and the famous Lion Gate. We explore the mighty fortress. The stage of the former western world, the ancient theater of Epidaurus, as a performance venue for divine and secular dramas from antiquity to the present day, completes today's excursion into the past.
Overnight stay in Tolo.
Day 4: Today we continue via the historic city of Sparta to the ruined city of Mistras, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit to Sparti (including the oil and handicraft museum) and past panoramic roads to the outer Mani. Overnight stay in the outer Mani.

Living customs, Greece
Day 5: Today we visit the villages of Inner Mani, whose residential towers give this special region its character. Following in the footsteps of P.L. Fermor, you will feel transported to another world in this setting. "Let your imagination wander, here where present and past form the soul of the Mani." We cross the stalactite cave of Dirou in small boats on underground canals. A very special experience! We have the opportunity to take a 45-minute hike to Cape Tenaron, one of the southernmost points in Europe with its imposing lighthouse. Not only are the remains of the Temple of Poseidon located here, but according to Greek mythology, this peninsula is also the entrance to the underworld (Hades). Overnight stay in the outer Mani.

In the 17th century, piracy flourished in Laconia. Large families such as Michalis and Troupakis made rich booty.
Day 6: Morning tour of Old Kardamili and the surrounding villages of outer Mani. In the midst of this landscape, with views of Kardamili, the Laconic/Messinian Gulf, olive groves and the Taygetos Mountains, you quickly become aware of the incredible beauty that nature has created here. On our route there are many small churches and chapels from the Byzantine era, where we can take our time to admire the architectural achievements of the time with their impressive wall paintings (frescoes). We spend the afternoon on the beach or stroll through picturesque Kardamili, where time seems to have stood still. Overnight stay in the outer Mani.
